About the application

Treatment plant design is one of the most challenging aspects of environmental engineering. Both theoretical knowledge and practical experience are necessary to design an efficient and cost effective. Therefore, an attempt has been made, by way of developing a much needed application, to simplify treatment plant designing. 

The application offered by this site has some exciting features as described below:

 1. To increase input parameter values use '+' sign buttons.

 2. To decrease input parameter values use '-' sign buttons.

 3. Depending upon the input values of BOD and COD, the application suggests " Treatability " of the waste    
     water so that appropriate treatment method can be adopted.

 4. When design of the plant needs some adjustments, required actions are prompted under the "Action to be 
     taken" section.

 5. Each time the user changes any of the input parameter values, the application works out the required 
     changes and reports back under the "Details of Design" section.

 6. Theoretical  aspect of the application enables to ascertain the extent to which design would support rise
     in Inflluent Flow, Suspended Solids, BOD or COD values without requiring to alter the volume of the
     primary collection chamber (Wet well), volume  of Aeration Tank, volume of Secondary Clarifier, capacity of
     Aerators or capacity of pumping units. Thus, if future projections for rise in Input parameters fall within
     the range which the design can support, not only considerable reduction in cost of construction of the plant
     can be achieved but also energy  - the most important aspect of environment - can be conserved.

 7. It has always been recommended that treatment plant should be designed in a way that shock loading
     could be prevented. With the help of this dynamic application, engineers could visualize the phenomenon
     how treatment plants designed to have higher pumping hours per day result into an efficient and cost
     effective system. However, it may be significant to know that setting design parameters around high duration 
     of pumping hours constraints the design to a specific range. 

     Treatment plants designed to have higher pumping hours per day have following benefits:

     (a) Volume of Aeration tank and Secondary Clarifier reduces making the design Cost Effective.
     (b) Reduction in Aeration tank Feed Flow rate can be observed, which coupled with reduced Aeration Tank
          and Secondary Clarifier volumes make the design more Energy Efficient.
     (c) Shock loading can be prevented, which results into better BOD reduction making the design Treatment 
          Efficient.

     Attention: Before finalizing the design, do check if Aeration Feed Flow rate is adjusted to a optimum value 
                          rendering a desirable degree of variance the system can support.

 8. For calculation purpose, Oxygen Transfer Rate: 1.3 KGS / HP / HOUR is considered.
